Cat litter box – what to choose

Cat litter box – what to choose

The most necessary thing for our kitten after eating is a place where the kitten will get rid of this food, i.e. a cat litter box. Manufacturers offer a huge range of cuvettes. From ordinary open, to closed, with and without doors, and even electronic self-service litter boxes that clean up after the cat themselves. Depending on our needs and budget, we will certainly choose the right cat litter box. Below we present to you an original guide to the litter boxes available on the market.

Before we buy a litter box, we should think about where we want to put it, whether it will be a place in the bathroom or in another room. If we have a large, spacious two-story house, we will need at least a litter box for the first floor. The cuvettes can be distinguished by the following characteristics:

  • cell size
  • the shape of the cuvette
  • height of the cuvette entrance
  • building type: open or closed
  • type of service: automatic or manual
  • entry type: either side open, door, window or top

What is most important for a cat in a litter box is the ability to calmly and stress-free settle its needs in a clean place. Clean litter and cleanliness in the cat’s litter box is a topic for a completely different article. When buying a litter box, let’s buy one that our cat can fit in it freely and defecate. Also remember to choose the right entrance height for the cat. A small kitten may not be able to cope with the high entrance to the litter box.

When we have a little purr and we teach him to use the litter box, he will certainly accept everything. An older kitten may be reluctant to change the litter box, but he will actually have no choice but to accept the litter box I get. Only cats with behavioral or behavioral problems may start to defecate outside the litter box, or hold back urination, for example, which will put them at risk of kidney disease.

Cuvette closed

If we decided to place the litter box in the bedroom, living room or room that requires a less bathroom and more elegant look from the litter box, we should consider buying a closed litter box. In these, cats enter through a window, door or through the entrance at the top. Such litter boxes more and more often have a carbon filter and unpleasant odors do not get out of it so easily. Such a litter box with a door and an additional appropriate pad under it will prevent the kitten from spreading litter.

Cuvette open

The most popular and basic model of the litter box is the open one, it looks like a large bowl, it can take various shapes, usually it is just a rectangle. The litter box is easy to use, you can immediately see if it needs to be cleaned or not. Such a litter box certainly cannot be in a representative place, it does not look aesthetically pleasing and it smells like litter box waste.

Electric cuvettes, self-service

The most expensive are self-cleaning, electric litter boxes. They are quite large and expensive, the prices reach even over PLN 1,000. These litter boxes are equipped with a container for collecting feces, often they turn on themselves after the kitten leaves the litter box. Immediately after using the litter box, they turn on the scented spray.

The prices of litter boxes start from PLN 20 and end at over PLN 1,000. The type of litter box we choose depends on many factors, such as the size of the kitten, apartment, place of placing the litter box and the budget we have. For a kitten, the most important thing is that it can calmly and stress-free settle its physiological needs.
