Why do cats like boxes?

In the Netherlands, research has been conducted on cats and their love of sitting in boxes, crates and paper bags. The University of Utrecht studied newcomer cats to an animal shelter. For 2 weeks, some of the animals were given a box every day, and some of them did not have the box at their disposal. The stress levels of all the cats were then examined. Application? Cats that had a box or other shelter at their disposal are less stressed. Cats feel safer having a hiding place at their disposal. They are also happy to use other items such as bags, pots and washbasins.
